Individuals who rent a home should absolutely have renters insurance. Otherwise these individuals may find themselves losing everything after an emergency. No one expects to have a fire, a flood, or any other catastrophic emergency. The fact of the matter however is that these events to occur, and people should be prepared for them in advance. Unfortunately, many people do not consider these possibilities until it is too late.
Most often after a fire or flood, very few items will be recovered. Whether they are burned, suffer smoke damage, or suffer water damage, most often, they will be unusable. People may lose antiques, family heirloom, and irreplaceable photographs. This however is not the worst of the situation. The fact of the matter is that people also lose necessary daily items. Many will be left with nothing but the clothes on their back. Often, these individuals will never have the opportunity to recover their former quality of life.
Some landlords require that all of their tenants prove that they have become insured. Many hold insurance policies, which do not include coverage for items which belong to a renter. This will generally also release the landlord from any liability due to negligence on the part of tenant. In other words, if the building is demolished as a result of careless cigarette smoking on the part of the tenant, this tenant will be held responsible rather than the landlord.
Most landlords will not rent the property to people who have dogs, water beds, or a great deal of valuables, without rental insurance. Most will require that this is agreed upon in writing.
Being properly insured will allow individuals not only the opportunity to replace lost items. It will also provide them with necessary funds in order to obtain a new housing arrangement. For many this will make the difference between having a place to live in becoming homeless.
Although no one expects to have an emergency take place, it is important to always be prepared for such an event in advance. Renters insurance will allow people to rebuild their lives after such a catastrophe.
